Kanosh Band of Paiutes Awarded Grant

At Echo Hawk & Olsen, we take immense pride in our role as advocates for Indigenous communities, championing their rights and ambitions with unwavering dedication. We are delighted to share that, in conjunction with Echo Hawk & Olsen, the Kanosh Band of Paiutes, a resilient and forward-thinking community located in Millard County, Utah, has been awarded a $742,720 grant from the Department of Interior’s Energy and Mineral Development Program. This funding will be used to support geophysical pre-development studies aimed at evaluating the commercial viability of geothermal energy development on the Kanosh Reservation, located in Millard County, Utah.

Known for their deep-rooted connection to their land and a forward-looking vision for their community, the Kanosh Band of Paiutes has embarked on an ambitious journey to explore the power of geothermal energy on Kanosh Tribal lands. Pursuit of the funding reflects the Tribe’s motivation to combat climate change while pursuing clean energy economic development prospects that would enhance their self-sufficiency and bolster their Tribal sovereignty.

To accomplish grant objectives, the Tribe will partner with Ormat Technologies, a global leader in geothermal energy and exploration, whose extensive expertise and cutting-edge technology will be instrumental in conducting the geophysical studies funded by the grant. This project is not just about harnessing clean energy—it represents a profound example of how Tribal governments and private sector entities can work together to achieve shared goals.

At Echo Hawk & Olsen, we are honored to have played a role in facilitating this transformative opportunity for the Kanosh Band of Paiutes. Our team worked diligently to navigate the complexities of the grant application process, ensuring that the Tribe’s innovative vision and potential were clearly articulated and supported. This grant is a testament to the Tribe’s strategic foresight and our firm’s commitment to advocating for the rights and aspirations of Indigenous communities. We believe that this project will not only benefit the Kanosh Band of Paiutes but will also serve as an inspiring example of how Tribal governments can successfully partner with the private sector to achieve sustainable energy development goals.

Echo Hawk & Olsen remains steadfast in our mission to support Indigenous communities in their pursuit of justice, development, and self-determination. We congratulate the Kanosh Band of Paiutes on this remarkable achievement and look forward to celebrating their continued successes.
